Sound Effects Production

A natural sound is the audio taken from the actual source. Sometimes natural sound does not meet audience expectations because they are disappointed by the sound of reality and influenced by sound ideology.

In response, AnEFX replaces the natural sound with more effective audio or they layer the sound. The team at AnEFX creates a characteristic audio by manipulating a natural sound to achieve a relatable and recognizable noise. Since many modern action films revolve around animals or creatures, the audience needs to feel a connection to these characters through an emotional language. Viewers should know when creatures have feelings, so the designer records the voice of real animals and alters them individually to create a believable voice capable of expressing emotion. AnEFX designs sound effects that enhance the audio onscreen.

Sound Design Production

Our sound designers help in the planning stages of film and television shows. We work with the director and post producer to shape the overall soundtrack of the film/show to manipulate the audio elements and create a desired mood. Frequently, the sound of a character does not exist in real life, i.e. an alien, so the sound designer has to accompany the imaginary visual with a sound onscreen. Also, a sound designer can be responsible for creating solely one kind of audio effect for a visual.

Dialogue Editorial

The audio recorded on set needs to be properly mixed by a dialogue editor. At AnEFX, locating the proper take from the recorded audio, checking sync and eliminating extraneous noise so that the mixer can clean the dialogue is all crucial. Dialogue is one of the most important elements of a soundtrack because the characters communicate critical information for the plot.

Dialogue is mostly recorded onset while the film/show is being filmed. When the scene is shot on location or on a sound stage with mechanical special effects, the dialogue may be affected by background noises. Therefore the actor must repeat his/her lines in a sound studio after shooting. The dialogue designer authenticates the validity of the character’s audio.

Foley Production

Foley supplies the film with subtle and everyday sounds that the microphone often misses. These background noises refer to anything from footsteps to doors closing to splashing in the pool that makes the film/show seem realistic. At AnEFX, a Foley artist helps create a sense of reality in the scene by adding these environmental sounds. During production, the props and sets have inappropriate acoustics for their real life counterparts, so Foley helps recreate an accurate noise later during post-production. Foley may also hide unnecessary sounds captured onset that may take away from the actual scene.

Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR)

ADR is the process of recording and replacing voices after the original shooting sequence. If the film is shot on a sound stage, the dialogue recorded will probably be used in the final film because there is usually no background influence. However, when the scene is shot on location or the sound stage has mechanical special effects, the dialogue may be impacted. AnEFX is constantly involved with ADR where the actors have to repeat their lines after filming in order to improve the audio quality.
